Halloween Classroom Activities That Are Actually Educational

Fighting the Halloween excitement is a losing battle. Channel it instead. These activities are festive AND educational.

ELA Activities

Spooky Story Writing -- Students write their own scary stories using narrative writing skills: setting, character development, suspense, dialogue, and resolution.

Monster Description -- Students write detailed descriptions of an original monster using sensory details and precise vocabulary. A partner draws the monster from the description alone.

Halloween Vocabulary -- Use Halloween words (ghoulish, eerie, sinister, phantom) to teach vocabulary strategies, word roots, and connotation vs. denotation.

Read-Aloud -- Share age-appropriate spooky books. Discuss mood, tone, and author craft.

Math Activities
