Math IEP Goals That Work

Math IEP goals need to target the specific skills a student has not yet mastered, not broad concepts. Identify the student's current level precisely, then write a goal that represents meaningful but achievable growth.

Number Sense and Counting

• [Student] will rote count to 100 with no more than 2 errors on three consecutive attempts.
• Given a set of up to 20 objects, [Student] will accurately count using one-to-one correspondence with 90% accuracy.
• [Student] will compare two numbers up to 100 using greater than, less than, and equal to symbols with 85% accuracy.

Basic Operations

• [Student] will solve single-digit addition facts (sums to 20) with 90% accuracy within a 2-minute timed assessment.
• [Student] will solve two-digit addition and subtraction problems with regrouping with 80% accuracy across three consecutive assessments.
• [Student] will multiply single-digit numbers (facts to 12x12) with 85% accuracy as measured by weekly fact checks.

Problem Solving

• Given a one-step word problem at grade level, [Student] will identify the operation needed and solve correctly with 75% accuracy.
