New York Next Generation Standards Lesson Plans with AI

New York's Next Generation Learning Standards

New York revised its Common Core-based standards into the Next Generation Learning Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, phased into both instruction and state testing. If you teach in New York, plan to the Next Generation standards — not the older Common Core versions still floating around in shared resources.

What Changed From Common Core

The Next Generation standards kept a Common Core foundation but revised and clarified many standards, adjusted grade-level expectations (especially in the early grades), and added lifelong-practice standards. The result is close enough to Common Core to feel familiar, but different enough that older materials need checking.

Science is separate: New York uses the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS), its own version built on the NGSS three-dimensional model.

No signup needed for your first one. Pick a grade and subject, enter a topic, and watch it write.

For the best results:

  • Use the NY- prefixed codes so the plan targets the revised standard, not the old Common Core one.
  • Name the Regents exam for high school courses — planning backward from the Regents keeps pacing honest.
  • Specify NYSSLS for science so the plan uses New York's three-dimensional science expectations.

High School and Regents

New York high school courses culminate in Regents exams, so strong plans work backward from the Regents blueprint. Generate a Vertical Plan with "New York Next Generation math" to see how a skill builds toward the high-school assessments.
